Renewal of Industrial Design in Iceland

We take care of the renewal of your registered industrial design in Iceland. We monitor the duration of protection, we file the renewal request, pay the renewal fees and keep you updated about the upcoming renewal period of protection.

The maximum term of design protection in Iceland is 25 years. The protection starts with the day of filing of the application at the Iceland intellectual property office or the claimed prior application date (priority date).

Upon registration of a design in Iceland it shall be protected by a registered design for a period of five years from the date of filing the application (or the claimed prior application date). The right holder may have renewed the term of protection for one or more periods of five years each, up to the total term of 25 years.

The renewal of a registered design in Iceland shall be done by a formal request, provided that the renewal fee will be paid too. Both shall be done within the protcetion period. Renewal shall have effect from the expiry of the registration.

The request for renewal can be submitted to the Iceland intellectual property office not before the last 3 months of the current protection period. The renewal fee has to be paid within the same period with the request. At least the request and the payment must have been done within the 6 months after the expiry of the current protection period. If this possibility for renewal was failed the design will become free to use in Iceland. s

If renewal is done during the six months following the expiry date of the current design protection period an additional fee for late renewal is requested.

Our offer relates to the renewal of a single design registration and includes the general office renewal fee but not the additional fee for late renewal payment in case of failing the general time for renewal.

It is possible to order the renewal of a multiple design registration in Iceland. Please refill our order form for each design which shall be renewed separatly.

Accepting the contract is subject to the circumstance that you will hire us early enough so that the request and the payment of the official fees can be arranged in time.
