Industrial Design registration in Ethiopia are for a 10-year term, beginning on the date of filing of the application for registration (or requested prior application date). Once the 15-year term is over, anyone is free to produce, import, rent or sell the design in Ethiopia. However the registration have to be renewed after 5 years for oone further consecutive periods of five years upon request and payment of a renewal fee.
Renewal shall be done during the 90 days before the expiry date of the first design protection period.
