The protection starts with the day of filing of the application at the intellectual property office or the claimed prior application date (priority date).
Upon registration of a design in Cape Verde it shall be protected by a registered industrial design for a period of five years from the date of filing the application (or the claimed prior application date). The right holder may have renewed the term of protection for one or more periods of five years each, up to the total term of 25 years.
