Maximum term of design protection in Brunei is 15 years, provided all renewals have been done before.

Design registration in Brunei start with a 5-year term, beginning on the date of filing the application. Before the expiry of every five years from that date, a formal maintenance request must filed and the renewal fee must be paid or protection in Brunei will end. Once the 15-year term is over, anyone is free to produce, import, rent or sell the design in Brunei.

The request for renewal must be submitted in the last year of the current protection period and a renewal fee shall be paid within this period too. A late renewal payment grace period of 6 months is granted if a surcharge is paid.
